The Diamond Match Co. was the foundation of Chico's Barber neighborhood. It is home to some of Chico's most historic buildings, but was originally a working class neighborhood for Diamond Match employees. Recently, demand for property in Barber has seen an increase. This is due in part to the historic feel of the neighborhood, the proximity to downtown Chico and the millions of dollars the city allocated for area improvements.
The Barber neighborhood is located from south of Little Chico Creek to Comanche Creek, and from west of Park Avenue to the Diamond Match Co.'s west property line near the Union Pacific railroad tracks.
